Dude gets a card...

Greetings,

One of my Legends of Bowling cards will be at CARDED on Saturday, April 6th.  It'll be among other great works from around town.  I'd love it if you came and gave me notes.

(...and coming soon, finished versions of the rest of the gang.)

Rock and Roll Burlesque

Greetings!

One of my side gigs is helping out my good friend Mr. Blue Morris and his stellar show Rock and Roll Burlesque.  He sends me pictures of beautiful women, I then make posters out of said pictures.  I enjoy it.  :)

You may have seen these posters around town.  If so, be sure to check out his monthly shows at the Electric Owl.

The Mighty Faulkner

Ahoy!

Friend and fellow Mo Bro, Scott, had requested an image of a book transformed into a moustache  for one of my Movember dailies.  I opted to go with an image of one of his favourite writters...

Operation Walrus!

Hey folks,

The first of the Movember Drawing Challenge sketches is done.  My friend Brenna asked for a walrus with "mo gravitas", to which I hope has a sufficient amount.

Each donor from last month gets a finished copy of their choice.  There will be more to come in due time.

Movember Drawing Challenge wrap up!

Greetings humans!

So with great pride I wrapped up the Movember Drawing Challenge with a pic of the Swedish Chef for day 30.  As mentioned before, the results were a personal best this year which was great to see.  Having individuals in my life affected by prostate cancer, I like to go head first at this cause each year.  I honestly did not expect the response I received, but am thankful none the less.

Next year I hope to continue this trend, and to raise even more cash than this year.  It's easy to get caught up in the fun of this campaign, which is great since it raises so much awareness!  However it's nice to see such great results nationwide... and worldwide too!

Thanks again to all who donated to myself or one of the many other Mo Bros and Mo Sistas.  And fellas, don't forget to talk to your doc!

Stay healthy,

-E.H.

ps. Stay tuned for the completed artwork on the selected sketches.

RIP Adam Yauch.

The Super Mo Bros.

I had to...

Ya, it was a fake 'stache, and I'm OK with that.
Sammy.

Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider.  Also, a man who lost
his battle with prostate cancer.

As per a request, William Faulkner
with a book-stache.

A moustache for peace.

To my fellow Mo Bros... I salute you!

Movember Drawing Challenge: Week 3

Greetings!

So three weeks in and past the half way point.  I am somewhat baffled at the fact that I am finding a few minutes some days to doodle up something for the cause.  This has been a crazy busy month for me, but rewarding none the less given that drawing these little pictures has helped prop up my pledge drive better than previous years.

Coming next week will be the final rotation of images, plus some final art which will be going to all the donors that have chipped in this month.

Cheers,

-E.H.

Tobias Fünke, the perfect man.
(Can't wait for new Arrested Development!)

Frank Zappa.  Very influential musician who lost his battle with cancer.

Friedrich Nietzsche... the craziest moustache in philosophy.
The quote in English; "Art is the proper task in life."

A young, moustachioed Nelson Mandela who was also a
boxer in his college days.  Madiba also is a prostate cancer
survivor!  Cancer and political oppression could not keep
the champ down!

The Sgt. Pepper era in Beatles lore... when they ALL rocked the mo.

A friend asked for a Johnny Depp pic.  I kinda butchered
this one, but I tried.  The choice was based on the portrayal
of Ed Wood... who had the classic pencil 'stache.

Einstein, of course.  Dat 'stache!

Movember Drawing Challenge: Week 2

Hey all!

First I would like to express my utmost gratitude towards the kind folks that have donated over the past two weeks.  Thanks to you, I now have raised more than my tally last year.  More so, I did it all within less than half the time.  Freakin' amazing!  For this, I can not express enough thanks.

Furthermore, those of us here in Canada are currently leading the way in fund raising.  Perhaps it is the fact that we are steeped in respect for the mo.  Regardless of such, this is another attribute to the overall awesomeness of those in participation.

Enough jibba jabba... here are this past week's sketches.  I will be starting on final art of select sketches as a reward for the donors so.  Stay tuned!

-E.H.

Check out my MoSpace!

Movember Drawing Challenge: Week 1

Greetings!

This post is a few days late, but better late than never I guess. Below are some drawings from the first seven days.  A huge thanks goes out to the individuals who donated, and thus contributed their ideas to the daily drawing challenge!

Thanks again!  And please be sure to support other fellas out there who are growing the mo, and raising the dough.  (oof... that was a bit cheesy.)

Movmeber: 30 Day Drawing Challenge

Ladies & Gents,

For November of 2012, I will be challenging myself do draw a picture a day for the Movember cause.

I will take requests from Facebook & Twitter to draw a moustache themed picture each day.  To those who donate to my Movember page, I will send you a high res picture of the Mo-themed art of your choice as a thank you, but also because you are awesome.  Images will begin to be sent out once Movember is over, so please hang in there if you donate early!  Also, I won't draw every request as I want to limit this to one drawing a day.

I am Exploding Haggis on Facebook.

@ExplodingHaggis on Twitter.

Most importantly, the link to my Movember page is http://ca.movember.com/mospace/1144402

Fk it, Dude... let's go bowlin'.

Greetings!

So HOT ART Wet City is hosting a Big Lebowski themed show, featuring art, costumes, and white Russians (the drinks, but actual Russian people may be in attendance too).  The event is titled FK IT DUDE, and includes all of the above.

I am submitting a piece that is the first part of many Lebowski inspired art that I have planned.  This is the first run of collector cards featuring characters from the cult classic. Stay tuned for more...

This is what happens when you draw a stranger in the Alps.

**Update!!  Some friends have asked if I am making a set of cards.  The intention is yes... however I must wait until my finger heals!  Email me if interested: exploding.haggis@gmail.com

Make it better with monsters

Greetings!

So recently I had the chance to pitch an idea which promoted the awesomeness of reading. Now this can be difficult because on a scale of one to 10, reading often comes in at around... oh, I'd say 11.

As a kid, I found it tough at times to get into reading.  However, my results varied based on my reading material.  Learning can be fun as long as you make it fun!  It's how it should be, in my humble opinion. During my younger years I tended to read more when there were dinosaurs involved.  For this specific project I realized not every kid is going to be into dinosaurs, so I figured it best to try and hit as much as I could with a little alphabet aerobics in subject matter...

Here are my three favourites, more to come soon...

The focus being reading about a topic that starts with a specific letter.

The Boys of Summer

Ahoy!

It's summer and baseball season is back in full swing.  This posting is from something that I had done at work back in the late spring, but it has been out now for just over a month.  Safe to say, I can brag about it now.  ;)

But in all seriousness, I was quite happy to do another book for the Toronto Blue Jays.  They have such a strong brand, and an overall fun product to work with.  Plus they are good people... which is also a bonus.

Well, here's a few shots of the finished product.  It's a kid's club book with a bunch of fun activities and such.  Something I'd want for myself, really.

Cheers,

-E.H.

Hooligans Football Club

Greetings!

So this spring I have been playing some beer league soccer.  I joined a team of other random folks to form Hooligans FC.  Keeping in beer league fashion, we were assigned this name which is a lot better than some of the other names out there.

We decided to own it.  I whipped up this logo and created a spray paint stencil for team t-shirts.  We look rough, but classy.

Dragon's Den

Greetings Dragons!

I enjoy working with a good product, especially something that is fun, or something I can get behind and feel good about.  At the end of the day, it is this motive that drives me.  Now granted the majority of my work is for family markets, I am looking to do more grown up stuff, which leads me to this...

A.K.A. "I will break you, Mnt. Kilimanjaro."

So a while back I was approached by a couple of friends over at Sidestix.com.  Sarah and Kerith were designing this awesome forearm crutch which resembled a cool Batman gadget (which is awesome in an eleventeen gazillion ways).  They needed a logo, and I happened to be renting a little studio from them at the time, so... we got to talkin'.

To really get the whole scoop on Sara's story, I strongly recommend checking out the Sidestix website. Since working on this for Sara and Kerith, they have done some amazing things.  Most notably the appearance on The Dragon's Den back in November.  Sara and Kerith even snuck the logo into their pitch... which apparently is a no-no on the show.

Product placement: You're doing it right.

I linked the Dragon's Den video below for those who would like to see it.  Sara has a great story as she really kicks the crap out of any mountain that gets in her way.  Both her and Kerith really got something great here, and it was fun to work with them on it... even if it was just a little.
